Scholarly sources are scholarly materials written by academics and other experts to assist in knowledge and researches in their related fields. Before a material is approved to be a scholarly source, it is thoroughly reviewed by scholars to check for its quality and cogency. Examples of scholarly sources include books, articles, journals and presentations.

Scholarly sources are divided into three; primary scholarly sources, secondary scholarly sources and bibliographies. Regularly, scholarly sources tend to have a formal look with an abstract and the approaches used for the research. Further, scholarly sources are written for education purposes targeted for either students or professors in that particular field. Also, scholarly sources mostly use a highly methodological specified language and they may contain citations of the research references (Habiba & Islam, 2022). Since scholarly sources entail research findings, they mainly use graphs, charts and diagrams. Moreover, scholarly sources are primarily long because they are mostly long researches. Generally, these articles are four pages long or more.

Using scholarly sources in academic research is more appropriate than using popular or any other sources. Firstly, scholarly sources are peer-reviewed by academics, scholars and the field experts before they are published therefore being accurate for any academic research. The use of scholarly sources will thus yield overall high quality work. Also, scholarly sources are written by academic experts such as professors and therefore they more appropriate to use in academic research compared to other popular sources which are merely written by the public with little or no academic credentials. Scholarly articles contain original approved research. Further, academic research requires the researchers to support their work by using verified scholarly articles hence being appropriate to use scholarly sources in their research. Lastly, academic research arguments should be well referenced through citing scholarly sources.
