American gov disscussion/prompt
Choose a local government (city or county, or Special District). It may be helpful to review the web sites of the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG.org), Georgia Municipal Association (GACities.com), and the International City Managers Association (ICMA.org). Remember, local governments are sub-state governments, so select a local government not a state. Introduce your chosen government to the class, describe its structure, including its branches, and then answer the following questions: chapters 13&14
- Who are the legislators and executive(s) of this local government?
- What are some initiatives that your local government is currently working on?
- What is the people’s perception of this local government (from local news or interviews)?
- From your research, is the local government doing well and fiscally stable?
- Is there a specific issue that the local government should address?
- How can citizens go about letting the local government know about your concerns? Are the meetings open to the public?
Task 1:
Create a new discussion topic on or before Wednesday at 11:55 p.m. Develop a substantive main thread addressing each part of the prompt in full. Your initial thread should be 200+ words and provide textual evidence. You should provide at least one direct quote from the source formatted in APA Style. For more information about APA Style, see the Purdue Online Writing Lab here: https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/apa_style/apa_formatting_and_style_guide/general_format.html
Task 2:
After you have created and posted your main response, you are then required to read and respond to a minimum of 2 of your classmate’s discussion topics. Think of your responses in terms of a contribution to a class study group. You are part of a team. Elaborate a single idea and without personal opinions. Incorporate what you have learned from the weekly reading material and from your online research. It helps to think of your responses in terms of a contribution to the study group working on a joint academic research paper. Do not forget to use proper APA documentation.
