Interdisciplinarity definition
In the field of research, interdisciplinarity is a paramount term that has an elaborative meaning. Drawing on various explanations, interdisciplinarity means combining knowledge and various points of view from more than one academic subject or field of study. Generally, interdisciplinarity contradicts the traditional disciplinary silos, which do not allow the integration of knowledge from various disciplines. On the contrary, the term permits collaboration and synthesis across various fields of knowledge. According to publications, “Interdisciplinarity is defined broadly by generalist interdisciplinarians as any form of dialogue or interaction between two or more disciplines” (SAGE Publication, 2018). Basically, the concept comprehends that complicated questions or phenomena necessitate a comprehensive understanding that cannot be found in one discipline. Therefore, for one to find a solution, one has to draw connections, fill in gaps, and enhance conversation between various disciplines to produce innovative enlightenment and answers. By utilizing the term, one can have a profound and all-inclusive analysis of a question, which enhances a complete understanding of its elaborateness and interconnectedness. Generally, interdisciplinarity is used to imply the approach of utilizing various academic areas to provide a holistic understanding of a subject matter.
worldview
The word worldview refers to a human’s basic credence and assumptions concerning the real world that shapes their comprehension of the world and people’s place on the planet. Fundamentally, the term refers to a view of the planet whereby humans interpret the experiences they base their choices on. Notably, the interdisciplinary perspective impacts my Christian worldview significantly. Personally, the perspective has broadened the lenses through which I engage, comprehend, and interpret the creation of God. Based on the interdisciplinary perspective, I now understand that the truth and knowledge about God and his creation can be found in multiple disciplines, whereby each subject area adds different knowledge to my understanding of his creation. In addition, the perspective also influences my Christian worldview to look for relationships and overlaps between my faith and other subject areas, which has enabled me to have profound respect for the uniqueness, variety, and interconnectedness of the work of God in this world. As a Christian also, the interdisciplinary perspective has enabled me to have a conversation and work with other people from various intellectual backgrounds, which has enriched my comprehension of God’s creation, hence enhancing a holistic approach to practicing my faith and beliefs.
Lesson: Be Proactive
The major lesson I mastered from Covey during this teaching period is to be proactive. According to Covey, “being proactive is more about taking responsibility for one’s actions” (Covey, 1989). As per the author, a person has the authority to opt for their responses to any circumstance, and by following the proactive approach, one can determine their situations and results. This single most helpful lesson has significantly impacted me by changing my view from being a reactive person to being proactive. Before, I did not take responsibility for my deeds, and I would often put the blame on my circumstances. My emphasis was also centered on things I did not have control on. Nevertheless, being proactive, as demonstrated by Covey, has enlightened me to work towards taking accountability for my decisions. Apart from the responsibility, I have come to realize that I possess the power to influence a positive shift in my life. Essentially, Covey’s lesson has changed my life to focus on things I have control over and use proactive language, which has improved my productivity and relationships with my peers. Through emulating proactive behavior, I have learned to address my obstacles with flexibility and align my deeds with my objectives and goals.
