After reviewing the Riverbend City: Shelter and Nursing Home Debriefing Mission, the additional concerns related to costs in the mission presentation include recruitment, provisions, and equipment expenses. The mission required a lot of resources for its success, and it is apparent that if these resources were managed well, the total expenses incurred would have been less. For example, a more efficient procurement process, better inventory regulation, and staff optimization would have minimized the staffing expenses while ensuring that patients and nurses’ shelter needs were still met.
Good financial management is essential for an organization’s growth and shareholders’ success. When finances are well-managed, it will likely lead to increased profits, reduced expenses, and high revenue. This benefits the organization and its entire staff, that is, workers, stakeholders, and consumers.
To address the cost concerns in the Riverbend City mission, leaders need to explore a number of solutions. First, they need to centralize procurement (Jensen, 2001). By doing so, the organization will negotiate better prices, control economies of scale, and streamline purchasing. Second, there is a need for better resource management. This will help to reduce surplus inventory hence avoiding waste. Lastly, cross-training the staff can help optimize resources by ensuring workers have the appropriate skills to handle several tasks. To sell these solutions to stakeholders, leaders can emphasize the potential benefits, such as cost savings and increased efficiency resulting from implementing these strategies (Jensen, 2001). Drawing from course readings and experience, it is essential to discuss with the stakeholders any strategy that might benefit the organization since it will contribute to its growth and sustainability.
Community-based scenarios present unique financial factors and cost-effective needs since they mostly deal with vulnerable people with few financial resources. In a community-based setting, essential services such as medicine, education, shelter, etc., are often expensive. As a result, organizations operating in community-based scenarios must focus on affordability and harness partnerships and collaborations to capitalize on resources and funding.
To align individual and organizational priorities with the needs and values of the community relative to cost-effective actions and behaviors, organizations must focus on the economic factors and the essential/more basic needs of the community (Brightman & Moran, 2001). They must focus on affordable actions that will greatly impact the resources while ensuring the provision of basic services. Organizations must also consider the community’s needs and beliefs by involving them in decision-making.

As a healthcare worker, I expect the professionals involved in the debriefing session to show a detailed understanding of the challenges faced during the mission and to work on improving those challenges. They should discuss the mission’s results and develop recommendations for future missions. Further, they should showcase good leadership skills such as building strong relations, critical thinking, and resource optimization. Lastly, I expect them to prioritize residents’ and patients’ needs and values and strive to give quality care at minimum costs.
What stuck out to me most concerning accountability, standards, ethics, and performance was the professionalism displayed in the session while discussing the significance of considering ethical principles (Laureani & Antony, 2018). The emphasis on the need for accountability, including transparency, identifying and acknowledging mistakes, and working on improving them, also stood out to me. Generally, the session focused on moral principles and performance while remaining accountable to stakeholders.
In my opinion, it is difficult to determine whether the original requirements and expectations for the situation were well-communicated and evaluated based on the debriefing session alone. However, the staff involved in the session acknowledged its goals and challenges. Further, they acknowledged their mistakes, identified their areas of improvement, and made recommendations for future missions (Davis et al., 2013). This suggests that these situations’ original requirements and expectations were well-communicated and evaluated. However, an in-depth assessment/analysis would be required to come up with a conclusive decision.
What concerns me most about the debriefing session is the challenge of balancing and competing demands of providing quality care while optimizing resource allocation. This challenge was not only faced in the session but also continues to face healthcare organizations since it can be challenging to balance the two. On the other hand, what I think went well was the well-organization, the ability to acknowledge mistakes and identify areas of improvement, and the drafting of recommendations for future missions. This showed strong ethical standards and leadership skills.
