she depict the state in this way? Which elements of Texas’ history seem to support this
assertion?

independent, the United States, and the Confederate States of America? How does this
tie in to the importance of the Juneteenth declaration being issued here? Why does

into the narrative of Texas history as much as possible. What does she believe to be the

7) Last but not least, discuss Juneteenth. What led to this proclamation being issued?
What were the reactions to it from whites and Blacks? Why does she believe that this
issuance was so important? How did this impact Reconstruction within the state?
