Nancy Pearcey’s perspective of true spirituality is complex and multifaceted. First, she argues that Christianity offers a comprehensive worldview by encompassing not only religious beliefs but also all aspects of life, such as art, history, and everyday choices (Total Truth: Liberating Christianity from Its Cultural Captivity). Through this perspective, she asserts that true spirituality involves integrating spirituality with all aspects of life and living according to the scripture or biblical teachings.

Also, Pearcey argues that “true spirituality” goes beyond personal salvation. Although she acknowledges the importance of personal salvation, she asserts that Christianity is not just salvation and has many implications. In her book “Finding Truth: 5 Principles for Unmasking Atheism, Secularism, and Other God Substitutes” Nancy Pearcey suggests that Christianity offers answers to crucial questions about the meaning of life, the nature of reality, and our place and role in the world. This suggestion draws her stance on “true spirituality,” where she argues that “true spirituality” seeks to understand and apply these answers to all areas of life.

Further, she contends that true spirituality is based on truth. She asserts that Christians should apply the truth revealed by the Bible to engage intellectually with each other, defend the faith, and protect the truth from error. Additionally, through challenging the modern emphasis on personal preference as the only ground for true spirituality, Pearcey argues that “true spirituality” must be rooted in objective truth, external standards, and, most importantly, biblical principles, not just on subjective experience or individual preferences (Total Truth: Liberating Christianity from Its Cultural Captivity).

An example of where leaders are most susceptible to failure is through lack of communication and transparency. Leaders may fail when they fail to communicate effectively or transparently with their audience. To prevent this failure, leaders should learn how to communicate effectively by establishing clear communication channels, encouraging open communication where the audience is involved, and regularly sharing updates and decisions with the audience. For instance, the Book of Exodus explains how Moses consistently communicated with the Israelites, keeping them informed about God’s commands and plans (Good News Bible, 2001, Exod. 19-20).

Christian leaders are also most susceptible to failure when they experience spiritual stagnation or deviate from a solid biblical foundation. Solomon’s spiritual stagnation and departure from a solid biblical foundation led to God raising adversaries against him; “Solomon did not obey the Lord but turned away from Him. So the Lord was angry with Solomon” (Good News Bible, 2005, 1 Kings 11:9). To prevent this failure, leaders should prioritize spiritual growth by regularly praying and studying the scripture. Leaders should also establish accountability relationships with their fellow Christians, leaders, or mentors to encourage spiritual growth and development. Moreover, Christian leaders should ensure that their decisions and actions align or are influenced by biblical teachings or principles.  

Further, leaders are most vulnerable to failure when they fail to uphold ethical standards or when they fail to demonstrate integrity. Joseph maintained his integrity in the face of temptation, exemplifying the importance of moral uprightness (Good News Bible, 2005, Gen. 39). Thus, to counter the occurrence of this failure, leaders should establish and communicate a strong code of ethics for themselves and the members, encourage a culture of maintaining ethical standards and accountability within the church, and equip themselves with biblical knowledge and principles of good leadership (Adejuwon, 2023).
