Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

1. Examine the process of healthcare policy and its impact on health care delivery and financing to be able to identify opportunities and effective means for nurses to influence health care policy and the political process.
2. Analyze the role of the professional nurse as a leader and change agent to improve health outcomes utilizing economic analysis, health services research and policy while also examining the process of healthcare policy and its impact on health care delivery and financing.
3. Identify and examine a policy for health system improvement addressing health care disparities, ethics, dilemma, financing issues, and the health care reform.
4. Examine strategies used to exert power as a professional nurse in the workplace, workforce, associations, interest groups, communities, and the government to influence change, policy development, and the political process,
5. Compare and contrast cost, quality, and access issues across health care sectors in the United States and globally, while being able to evaluate the economic forces impacting nursing practice and healthcare delivery.
6. Identify key policy issues in contemporary health systems that affect nursing and patient care outcomes while demonstrating knowledge of policy and politics in research and nursing Science using evidence-based health care practice.
