Goal

The goal of this assignment is for you to use your knowledge of children’s development to create an idea for a new children’s educational television show. A major theme of this course is that children learn from their cultural environment. This is your opportunity to explore this theme and think about how you might structure what children see and hear in order to promote healthy development.

Assignment

You will write a 3-page paper proposing a new children’s educational television show. You must describe what the show will be, who the characters in the show are, what the content of the show is, what age range of children the show is geared towards, what will happen during a typical episode. Finally, you must justify your decisions. You must explain why your show will be designed the way it is designed. Use your knowledge of child psychology to justify your decisions.

On Blackboard, there is a scientific journal article titled “Media as Social Partners: The Social Nature of Young Children’s Learning From Screen Media” by Richert, Robb, & Smith (2011). This article reviews a lot of the literature on how children learn from television shows. Read this article and use it help design your paper.

Papers must adhere to APA formatting. This includes correct grammar, citations, and inclusion of a title page. The title page does not count towards the 3-page limit. Therefore, your paper will truly be approximately 4 pages long.
